Additional File 1.

This appendix contains the life tables that were used to calculate life expectancy and HALE for people with and without DM and for the Ontario population with and without DM eliminated. The life tables include estimates of statistical variation. These life tables can be used for several purposes such as: estimating life expectancy and HALE for different age-groups; estimating different life table functions such as probability of developing DM or surviving with DM for different age-periods; and as a spreadsheet template for the estimation of life and health expectancy for different populations, conditions or planning scenarios. To use the spreadsheet as a template for estimating life expectancy and HALE in different populations, the mortality and/or HRQOL estimates for the Ontario population can be substituted with age- and sex-specific mortality and/or HRQOL estimates of alternative populations.
